ETHNIC MINORITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND GUIDELINES

The Connecticut Education Foundation, Inc. has established an annual scholarship for qualified ethnic minority candidates who are currently enrolled in a Connecticut public high school and intend to enter the teaching profession in Connecticut.

The Connecticut Education Foundation, Inc. endowment falls under the control of the Connecticut Education Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors. Candidates must be from a CEA local school. A minimum of a $2,000.00 scholarship is awarded yearly and distributed in June to qualified candidates.

The Ethnic Minority Future Teacher Scholarship of the Connecticut Education Foundation (CEF) shall serve the following purposes:

  1. To assist and encourage highly qualified ethnic minority students to enter the teaching profession.
  2. To ensure that ethnic minority students who have clearly indicated their intention of entering the teaching profession receive the support of CEF, active and retired CEA teachers and the CEA student program when and where appropriate.
  3. To offer continued professional support upon entry into the profession.

Award Guidelines

The Award

CEF will award a $2000 scholarship for each year of undergraduate study leading to obtaining Connecticut teaching credentials.

Qualification Criteria

For High School Students
  1. Candidate shall be a minority as recognized by the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education (Black; Native-American/Alaskan Native; Asian/Pacific Islander and Hispanic/Latino).
  2. The applicant must be a full time high school student currently enrolled in a public high school in Connecticut.
  3. The applicant must indicate evidence of pursuing interest in teaching as a career in college and confirm his/her intention to enter the teaching profession in CT.
  4. The applicant must present evidence of maintaining a 3.0 cumulative index average on a 4 point scale during high school.
  5. The applicant should provide instances of leadership roles, community activities, volunteer experience and financial need.
For College Students
  1. Candidate shall be a minority as recognized by the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education (Black; Native-American/Alaskan Native; Asian/Pacific Islander and Hispanic/Latino).
  2. The applicant must be a full time college student currently enrolled in a Connecticut college.
  3. The applicant must indicate evidence of pursuing interest in teaching as a career and confirm his/her intention to enter the teaching profession in CT.
  4. The applicant must present evidence of maintaining a 3.0 cumulative index average on a 4 point scale during high school.
  5. The applicant should provide instances of leadership roles, community activities, volunteer experience and financial need.

Continuing Eligibility

  1. The applicant must present evidence of pursuing a full time course of study that will result in obtaining teaching credentials in Connecticut.
  2. The applicant must present evidence to the President of CEF of sustaining a 3.0 cumulative average for each year of study.
