The Connecticut Education Foundation is a non-profit, charitable foundation that was established in 1991 to help teachers and children with extraordinary personal hardships and students planning teaching careers. The CEF Board of Directors governs the foundation and administers the five funds and the Holiday Bear Project described below.
DiGiovanni Future Teacher Scholarship Fund
This fund awards scholarships to the children of CEA members and staff. The applicant must be a full-time college or university student who has completed at least three full semesters or four trimesters within the last two years and who intends to enter the teaching profession in Connecticut. The application deadline each year is May 1. Applications are available from CEA and this web page.

Racially & Ethnically Diverse Educator Scholarship Fund
This fund awards scholarships to qualified ethnic minority high school seniors and college students who intend to enter the teaching profession in Connecticut.
The application deadline each year is May 1. Applications are available from CEA, high school guidance departments and this web site. All applicants will be notified of the status of their application by June 15. Recipients will receive notification by certified or registered mail.

Edward J. Boland Financial Assistance Fund
The Edward J. Boland Fund was established at the 1987 CEA Representative Assembly to assist active CEA members when they were experiencing extraordinary or catastrophic personal situations. The Fund was posthumously named to honor Edward J. Boland, a devoted teacher and dear friend to all. Grants are awarded to assist teachers who may face such conditions as severe family illness, unforeseen disasters, or other serious financial burdens. Requests are accepted throughout the year.
Ruth A. Shultz Scholarship Fund
The Ruth A. Shultz Scholarship Fund was established in 1978 under the terms of her will. Ruth A. Shultz, a teacher, established this scholarship fund for Connecticut students pursuing a career in education.
The Children’s Fund
This fund assists needy students in Connecticut’s public schools and provides basic needs such as clothing, food, medicine, eyeglasses and hearing aids. Requests must be made by an active member of CEA and are accepted throughout the year.

Holiday Bear Project
The Connecticut Education Foundation’s (CEF) Holiday Bear Project is our holiday gift-giving project that links CEA members, the public, and businesses with needy public school students. Bear down for a worthy cause by sponsoring a needy Connecticut child. Your efforts will help the child bear up during the holidays.
Hands Across the Green Golf Tournament
The Hands Across the Green Golf Tournament is our annual fundraiser for The Children’s Fund. Join your colleagues. Get a team together and enjoy a fun day of golf while helping children in need.
