During Autism Awareness Month and today’s special celebrations at the State Capitol, we proudly recognize the work our dedicated educators do every day to support the needs of all students, especially those with autism and other special needs.
It’s deeply disappointing that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made outrageous and harmful remarks that stigmatize students with disabilities and disrespect the professionals who serve them. These comments, especially from a public official, have no place in conversations about equity and education.
Today and every day, teachers and support staff work with students who have a wide variety of needs, ensuring caring, nurturing, and welcoming environments where all students are safe, accepted, and valued and can reach their potential.
