
Stephanie Wanzer has served as the treasurer of the Connecticut Education Association (CEA) since 2023. In addition to her statewide leadership, she serves on the executive board as treasurer of the CEA’s non-profit arm, the Connecticut Education Foundation.
A dedicated educator, Stephanie, has spent 21 years as a special education teacher in the Oakview Transition Program at Cooperative Educational Services (C.E.S.). Throughout her career, she has held numerous state and local association leadership positions, including a six-year tenure as CEA Secretary, finance chair, constitution/bylaws chair, CEA/NEA resolutions chair, and a member of the staff personnel, Equity Pratt Fund and election committees. As a passionate champion for special education causes, Stephanie has lent her expertise to the CT Special Education Taskforce, the CEA Ad Hoc Special Education committee, and the special education work group tasked with updating Connecticut’s special education certification requirements.
At the local level, Stephanie served as president of the Cooperative Educational Services Education Association for 19 years. In this role, she fiercely advocated for teachers’ working conditions and anchored contract negotiation and bargaining teams. Her efforts successfully secured critical benefits and protections for educators, including salary increases, tuition reimbursement, bereavement days, and capped class sizes.
Stephanie earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Manhattanville College. She holds a certification in comprehensive special education, a master’s degree, and a sixth-year degree in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University.
