All eyes now are on the November general election in the wake of Dan Malloy’s win yesterday in Connecticut’s Democratic gubernatorial primary. Both Malloy and his former opponent, Ned Lamont, pledged to work together in the weeks ahead to unite their party.
CEA had endorsed Lamont in the primary. Now, as attention shifts to the general election, the Association is examining the positions of the Republican and Democratic gubernatorial candidates on education issues and priorities important to teachers, children, and public education.
In other election developments, the August primary decided the Democrat and Republican tickets for these other state constitutional offices: Attorney General: George Jepsen (D), Martha Dean (R); Secretary of the State: Denise Merrill (D), Jerry Farrell (R); Comptroller: Kevin Lembo (D), Jack Orchulli (R). Jepsen, Merrill, and Lembo are endorsed by CEA.
The winner of the Republican primary for Connecticut’s U.S. Senate seat, Linda McMahon, will face Democratic candidate Richard Blumenthal who is endorsed by CEA.
For Connecticut’s five congressional seats, the current Democratic incumbents, John Larson (1st District), Joe Courtney (2nd District), Rosa DeLauro (3rd District), Jim Himes (4th District), and Chris Murphy (5th District) are endorsed by CEA.
I sincerely hope that CEA will enthusiastically and strenuously support Richard Blumenthal for the open seat on the U. S. Senate
