Students and teachers around Connecticut have been celebrating Veterans Day yesterday and today. From a school-wide assembly and classroom read-alouds by veterans and active duty military personnel at Poquonock Elementary in Windsor to an observance at Trumbull High School featuring performances by the school’s marching band and chamber singers—students from kindergarten to twelfth grade have been honoring veterans and learning about their service to their country.
The Vernon Public Schools have honored veterans very publicly with a billboard posted along Route 83. It celebrates the 3,200 cards and letters sent to veterans by students for Veterans Day last year. This year, for the fifth straight year, students at Northeast Elementary School sent out the most thank you cards of any school in Vernon, honoring local veterans with 1,307 handwritten messages.
