Join a virtual town hall, “Rethinking Screens in Our Schools: A Community Conversation,” Wednesday, September 23 at 7 p.m. featuring CEA Secretary Gail Jorden as a panelist. The conversation will explore classroom technology, student attention and mental health, school safety, cell phone policies, and practical steps parents and schools can take to create healthier and more effective learning environments.
The moderated panel discussion on the real-world impacts of electronic devices in the school environment will be followed by an audience Q&A. In addition to Jorden, a literacy coach at Metacomet Elementary School in Bloomfield, other panelists include John Harris, principal of Naugatuck High School; Dr. Ethan Rothstein, child and parent cognitive-behavioral therapist; and Detective Joseph Cusano, youth officer for the Darien Police Department.
The event comes as Connecticut schools are taking a closer look at the role of technology in education, following recent State Board of Education recommendations calling for bell-to-bell cell phone policies and more purposeful use of screens in schools.
The town hall is free and open to the public. Those unable to attend may register to receive a recording following the event.
