It was a cloudy, cool, and damp morning outside of Morley Elementary School in West Hartford, but children entering the building yesterday carried bright pops of color—flowers to give their teachers as a way of saying “thank you.”
Some students brought flowers from home and others purchased flowers from a PTO fundraiser. Together with their classmates, students created bouquets for their teachers and raised money for their school.
“Each and every day the teachers here give so much to our students. They’re very dedicated,” said West Hartford parent and PTO member Sally Mancini.
“The kids work hard and our teachers put in an awful lot of work,” said Principal Ryan Cleary.
PTO member Annabell Gwiazdoski added, “Teachers’ commitment to enriching our children’s lives is really incredible.”
Asked why she was purchasing a flower for her teacher, second grader Taylor Benavides said, “She’s the best!”
The flower sale was one of many activities the Morley PTO organized for Teacher Appreciation Week. Other activities included homemade cards and thank you notes from students, dinner for teachers, and an opportunity for students to write poems, sing songs, or tell jokes for their teachers.
“As we’ve expected teachers to take on more and more, these Teacher Appreciation Week activities are the least we can do to say thanks,” said Mancini.
