Many people don’t realize how easily criminals are able to obtain personal data. In 2014, there was a new identity theft victim in the U.S. every two seconds, according to a study by Javelin Strategy & Research. Identity thieves make off with about $16 billion a year in the U.S. alone.
While credit monitoring and protection systems are helping catch and deter criminals, fraud remains widespread and underreported. The good news is that it is often preventable.
