It is a shame that Project Opening Doors has divided teachers by offering cash incentives only to those who teach AP courses. What about the teachers for the other classes students take and their counselors and library media specialists? We ALL contribute to the education of a student. Our students need ALL of us to help them succeed.
Pay should not be tied to student performance on AP exams. There are too many variables that would make this system invalid. Teachers would be tempted to teach to the test instead of doing interesting lessons tied to the curriculum. In addition, student populations vary from district to district and even classroom to classroom. Students with English as a second language and students with special needs may perform lower on the tests and it is not fair to hold teachers responsible for the lower scores.

Brenda, you are so right. There are many wonderful teachers who do not teach AP courses. How unfair it would be.
