CEA-Retired members are back in person with their national colleagues this week in Chicago for the NEA-Retired Annual Meeting, which takes place yesterday and today.
“It is wonderful to be back in person for our Annual Meeting,” says CEA-Retired Vice President Gloria Brown. “Chicago is a wonderful city in which to have a convention. We have six retired delegates from Connecticut who support the NEA Fund and are active participants in the meeting.”
NEA-Retired President Sarah Borgman (pictured at far right) yesterday presented CEA-Retired Secretary Karen DiMenna, Brown, and President William Murray with the NEA-Retired Spotlight Award for best retiree news in a state publication. CEA has won that award numerous times for coverage of retired issues in the CEA Advisor, even earning a place in the NEA-Retired Hall of Fame after winning for three consecutive years.
“The spotlight award is given to the NEA-Retired affiliate that does the best job of recognizing and publishing the accomplishments of their retired members,” says Murray. “We were honored that NEA-Retired acknowledged our work.”
“CEA Communications staff has done a great job of spotlighting CEA-Retired in the Advisor,” adds Brown.
NEA President Becky Pringle and Vice President Princess Moss both addressed retired members during the meeting, thanking them for their hard work on behalf of fellow retired teachers, their active colleagues, and the nation’s public school children.
NEA-Retired President Sarah Borgman challenged retirees to continue to work to end the Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision that negatively impact retired teachers’ Social Security earnings, enact common sense gun laws, and advocate for racial and social justice in our public schools.
In addition to Murray, Brown, and DiMenna, the other CEA-Retired delegates to the NEA-Retired Annual Meeting are Vice President-elect Mary-Beth Lang, Secretary-elect Pat Jordan, and CEA Political Action Committee Chair Bob Brown.
More CEA members are on their way to Chicago for the NEA Representative Assembly (RA), which takes place July 3-6. Subscribe to the CEA Daily for the latest on CEA members’ work with thousands of other educator delegates at the national meeting.
