Teachers and others who are marathon runners are buzzing about today’s announcement that Northeast Utilities (NU) is the new title sponsor of the Hartford Marathon.
But we’re hoping you’ll help us spread the news that CEA’s charitable arm, the Connecticut Education Foundation (CEF), has been selected as an Official Charity for the 2014 NU Hartford Marathon.
CEF President Jeff Leake says, “We are so pleased to get this designation for CEF. Our next job is to interest marathon participants in running to raise funds for the often needy and always deserving children, teachers, and scholarship recipients that CEF helps.”
With new designated charities, like CEF, and a new title sponsor, there’s tremendous energy growing around the October 11, 2014 marathon. “We’re asking the public education community to get the word out: CEF is the new kid on the block when it comes to the NU Hartford Marathon, and our new status provides a great opportunity for people to run for our cause, one that is consistent with the mission of the well-respected marathon,” said Leake.
CEF funds are put back into the community to assist teachers and children who have extraordinary personal hardships, as well as to fund scholarships to help future teachers.
Encourage your local Association to put together a group of runners and join the CEF Team and participate in the full marathon, half marathon, team relay or 5K.
CEF is the charitable arm of the Connecticut Education Association. Since its inception in 1991, the Foundation has distributed more than a million dollars in assistance and scholarships. “Join Team CEF and encourage your family and friends to share your dedication to children. We know with our participation we will be able to expand our outreach and provide more services and assistance to teachers and students,” says Leake.
The marathon started in 1994. Last year, about 15,000 runners participated in the marathon, half-marathon, 5K, marathon relay, and kids races. There were 2,695 finishers in the marathon, 6,586 in the half-marathon, and 1,967 in the 5K.
