The legislature today passed SB 1, An Act Concerning Transparency in Education—a comprehensive bill addressing school indoor air quality, classroom safety and school climate, and an audit of statewide mastery testing, among other provisions. The bill also sets up an in-depth commission to address the retention and recruitment of teachers and paraprofessionals, compensation and benefits, and class sizes.
“Thank you to all the legislators who voted in favor of this bill that takes steps to enhance public education in Connecticut,” says CEA President Kate Dias. “We have seen some important wins this legislative session with the budget, play based learning, and addressing classroom safety, and we hope legislators will also take up the important education provisions in HB 6880 before the session ends tonight.”
