It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Patricia Jordan, secretary of CEA-Retired. Pat was a dedicated Waterford math teacher who became involved in union work early in her career, holding various local leadership positions before advancing to the state and national levels. Over the years she held numerous committee positions, sat on the boards of directors of both CEA and NEA, was elected CEA Secretary, served as a long-time delegate at CEA and NEA Representative Assemblies, served on the NEA Resolutions Committee, and chaired the CEA Resolutions Committee.
Pat was a strong supporter of the Connecticut Education Foundation and founded the Children’s Fund, which she called her proudest accomplishment. The Children’s Fund has provided hundreds of children with necessities their families couldn’t afford.
Most recently, Pat co-authored the new business item that brought the issue of WEP/GPO repeal to the floor of the NEA Representative Assembly. She was instrumental in our advocacy efforts that ultimately led to the repeal of these outdated laws, which had unfairly penalized teachers in retirement. She celebrated with all of us when the repeal passed and shared in our victory when President Biden signed the Social Security Fairness Act in January.
Pat was a powerful force within CEA and CEA-Retired and was the recipient of the 2024 CEA Excellence in Education Advocacy Award. She always approached her work with great love and compassion as she deeply cared about students, her colleagues, and the teaching profession. She was full of life and had a fierce wit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Our condolences go out to Pat’s family and friends.
