The Connecticut Education Foundation supports children and teachers in need—and there are lots of fun ways for teachers to get involved. From a golf tournament in July to a gala in September to purchasing gifts during the holiday season, teachers can have fun with their family, friends, and colleagues while supporting a good cause.
There’s still time to register to attend the CEA Celebrates Gala on September 27—you can purchase individual tickets or get your local association to sponsor a full or half table—and it’s also now time to nominate children to receive gifts through the Holiday Bear project.
In the latest episode of CEA’s podcast, Two T’s in a Pod, CEA President Kate Dias and CEA Vice President and CEF President Joslyn DeLancey talk with long-time CEF supporters CEA Treasurer Stephanie Wanzer and CEA production technician Chip Karkos about nominating and sponsoring children through the Holiday Bear project.
CEF is ready to accept nominations and sponsorships already this season, and DeLancey encourages teachers across the state to get involved.
“We’re looking for nominations from our CEA members—teachers, social workers, counselors, and school psychologists,” says DeLancey. “Members can nominate students who are in really severe need—students whose families might not be able to celebrate the holidays otherwise. There are children in need in every district.”
Wanzer sponsors children through Holiday Bear every year, buying gifts ahead of the holiday season, and says it’s helpful when nominators provide as much information as they can.
“It’s really important that those who nominate are giving as much information as possible to really help me or another sponsor to buy items that will really make a child’s holiday,” Wanzer said.
