CEA-Retired members are in Orlando, Florida, this week, but instead of relaxing on a summer vacation, they’ve been busy meeting with other NEA-Retired members at the NEA-Retired Annual Meeting, which took place yesterday and today.
NEA President Lily Eskelsen García addressed the retirees yesterday, saying, “You are the voice of experience.” Eskelsen García said that NEA-Retired membership has consistently grown, even during challenging years, because, “Even though we all hope to retire one day, NEA will always be a part of our lives—and we’ll always be a part of NEA.”
CEA-Retired President Gloria Brown and Vice President Bill Murray were presented with the NEA-Retired Spotlight Award earlier today for Best Retiree News in a State Publication. This is the third straight year the CEA Advisor took top honors for reporting retiree news—placing it in the NEA-Retired Award Hall of Fame. CEA-Retired also received a runner-up award for best retired state website for www.cea.org/cear.
More CEA members will soon be heading to Florida for the NEA Representative Assembly (RA), which takes place July 3-6. Check back later this week for RA news and updates.
I hope these people lobbied for repeal of GPO/WEP, an unfair, immoral law enacted during the Reagan administration
