The Connecticut Education Association’s Communications Department was honored at a national awards ceremony held at the State Education Association Communicators’ annual conference in Philadelphia on June 23.
CEA, the state’s largest teachers’ union, took home seven awards recognizing exceptional communications across various categories, including special events, podcasts, publications, opinion/editorial writing, and social media campaigns. In addition, CEA Communications Director Nancy Andrews was recognized as PR practitioner of the year, earning the Bill Guy Award for Excellence in Public Relations.
Andrews, who lives in Wethersfield, has been with CEA for 13 years and has served as communications director since 2016. She is the first Connecticut recipient of the national title in 35 years.
“We are extremely proud of the work we do, and none of it would be possible without our team of talented communications professionals,” says CEA President Kate Dias. “From large-scale media outreach to grassroots organizing, Nancy and her staff are the force behind so many of our accomplishments on behalf of Connecticut’s dedicated public school educators. To have their work judged as exemplary by their peers across the country is extremely gratifying.”
She adds, “While our members are in their classrooms doing the critical work of teaching and supporting our students, CEA is out there ensuring that their message resonates in their communities and that teachers’ voices are amplified everywhere that decisions about education are being made.”
CEA earned the following SEAComm distinctions in 2024:
