This year’s legislative session resulted in a number of important wins for students, teachers, and schools—and CEA President Kate Dias and Vice President Joslyn DeLancey recently discussed many of those wins with the Senate chair of the legislature’s Education Committee, Senator Doug McCrory.
In the most recent episode of CEA’s podcast, Two T’s in a Pod, the three also looked ahead to legislation they hope lawmakers will pass in the 2023 session.
“We had a great year,” said McCrory, an administrator in the CREC school system.
He said that, as an educator for 31 years, he’s seen a change in students and the issues they’re facing, which is why it was so important that legislators came together this year to pass vital investments in children’s mental health.
“We all know what this pandemic has done to our children, and finally the entire state of Connecticut realized we had a serious problem,” he said. “Putting that investment into social emotional learning is huge.”
