“Teaching is challenging and anything we can do to make it easier allows teachers to spend their brain power on the fun things, the creative things, and making those connections with students,” West Hartford Spanish teacher Dana Martin shares with CEA President Kate Dias and Vice President Joslyn DeLancey in the latest episode of CEA’s podcast.
To start the school year off on the right foot, Martin, a Conard High School teacher, talks with Dias and DeLancey about a number of time management strategies, classroom routines, and technology tips especially useful for early-career educators.
With a three-year-old and a twenty-month-old at home Martin leans into every technique available for making the best use of her time.
“I’ve developed a ton of strategies that save me time because I need to make use of every second I can get when I’m at work, because nothing is getting done at home,” she says.
Among the most popular of the tips she shares with colleagues are a list of keyboard shortcuts that speed up tasks such as highlighting text or repeating the last action performed. See Martin’s list of keyboard shortcuts here.
“People have told me that this cheat sheet has changed their lives and how they lesson plan,” she says.
