At a recent conference, Rekindling Joy in Schools, teachers focused on various aspects of play in the classroom including how play can enhance access to the curriculum for students with 504 plans and IEPs.
Teachers’ voices were heard by state legislators, resulting in additional school funding and the passage of numerous bills that will improve teachers’ working conditions—but there’s still more work to be done.
An important bill for teachers that incorporates play-based learning, raises the kindergarten start age, eliminates performance ratings in teacher evaluations, and more passed the State House of Representatives and now heads to the Senate.
