It’s still so fresh in our minds that it seems like it happened just yesterday, but Saturday will mark the one-year anniversary of the horrific massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School that took the lives of 20 young children and six educators.
Many of your CEA colleagues will join in a remembrance tomorrow by wearing green Sandy Hook ribbons to school. It’s a tribute to the teachers and students who lost their lives.
CEA members have purchased ribbons throughout the year and their generous donations have gone to the CEA Sandy Hook Memorial and Scholarship Fund. These gifts go toward the Sandy Hook School Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Connecticut and the creation of a bronze sculpture memorializing the heroism and sacrifice that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Some additional ways to honor the Sandy Hook victims include:
- Continue the movement started last year, to spread 26 acts of kindness to honor the victims of the shooting. Using the hashtag #26ActsOfKindness on Twitter and the Facebook page 26 Acts of Kindness, share your acts of generosity this holiday season.
- Participate in the governor’s call for the entire state to observe a moment of silence on Dec. 14 at 9:30 am, as houses of worship and government buildings ring their bells 26 times in honor of the students and educators.
