As mandated reporters, Connecticut teachers must be alert to signs of potential child abuse or neglect. Teachers who believe a student may be the victim of abuse or neglect are legally obligated to report that information and their concerns to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) within a certain time frame.
Failure to report, or a delay in reporting, can put students at risk and could have serious consequences for mandated reporters. Sometimes teachers are not sure what or if they should report. Not knowing, and not acting, places their students and them in jeopardy.
CEA’s Legal Department has put together a short presentation covering what you need to know about DCF reporting. Click here to watch the video (found in the right sidebar) to learn about your rights and responsibilities as a mandated reporter.
