Today’s Hartford Courant has an article about CEA’s new ad campaign.
“We’re trying to promote the image of teachers and remind the public of the hard work teachers do, especially during this time of dwindling resources, growing class sizes and budget battles. It’s a critical time to remind the public that teachers have a job unlike any other,” said CEA spokeswoman Kathy Frega.
“It’s also going to be a tough legislative session. We’re hoping that the state legislature will pay attention to the campaign as they make critical decisions about school funding and resources,” she said.

Each [ad] shows teachers hard at work preparing for class, meeting with parents and often putting in many hours behind the scenes, said Phil Apruzzese, president of the CEA, which represents 42,000 Connecticut teachers.
“These ads are simply to give the public an idea of what teaching is like in today’s world,” Apruzzese said.

I enjoyed being part of the ad campaign because I believe the public needs to be aware of the important work teachers do. My colleagues and I at Amity High School always read students’ papers on the weekends and spend our vacations prepping for our upcoming classes and grading student work.
I’m glad CEA is spotlighting teachers’ dedication because we do some of society’s most important work. We care deeply about our students. We show it by doing lots of preparation, designing accurate assessments, and individualizing our lessons for each learner.
I, too, enjoyed being part of CEA’s ad campaign experience. There are SO many misconceptions about what we do as teachers and how much time we devote to our profession. That’s right – it’s a profession. Not a job. We are given the wonderful challenge of making this world a better place by reaching one student at a time every single day. Since when did we start being perceived as the “bad guys”? Together, we need to stand strong and get the message out that teachers are an important investment in our society’s future.
I was happy to take part in the ad campaign because I believe the public needs to recognize the important work teachers do EACH and EVERY day. The other teachers in my school and I collaborate before AND after school to ensure that each student’s individual needs are met. We spend our WEEKENDS and VACATION TIME learning scientifically researched-based interventions, planning interactive lessons, and correcting a never-ending amount of papers.
It was a real honor to be chosen to participate in this campaign. The commerial team was terrific and very supportive. People in my community have already seen the commercial. It has sparked great conversations around all of the hard work teachers do, the investment teachers put back into their classrooms and the importance of funding to keep programs and teachers. CEA, this is a wonderful way to get the public aware of how important education is and it should be a number one priority!
