Are you a local leader with a vision for a standout new educator orientation but you need a little support to bring it to life? CEA is offering a limited number of $500 grants to help local associations create welcoming, engaging experiences for new members, and applications are now open.
A strong orientation can set the tone for a new educator’s entire career. It’s often their first meaningful interaction with their union—an opportunity to build trust, foster connection, and demonstrate the power of collective support from day one. With the right approach, your event can leave new members feeling informed, valued, and excited to get involved.
We’re looking for creative, thoughtful ideas that go beyond the basics and help your local stand out. How can you make your orientation memorable? What would have made a difference when you were new? Whether it’s hosting a relaxed social with a food truck, securing a welcoming off-site venue, assembling practical “survival kits,” or organizing a fun new-member spotlight, the goal is to create a sense of belonging and community right from the start.
Grant funds can be used in a variety of ways to enhance your event—so don’t be afraid to think big and tailor your proposal to the needs of your local.
To apply, email Chris Teifke with a brief description of your orientation plan and how you would use the funds. The deadline to apply is May 15.
