I have a sense of optimism I did not have last Friday. CEA’s Day of Action was a tremendous success because so many of you showed up—both at the Capitol and in your schools—for our students and our profession.
Yesterday was a good day. We spoke to many, many legislators, and some teachers even had the opportunity to speak to the governor! Our presence was known, and we were there from the very start and had to get firmly evicted with the final legislators. Working together for our common goals was magic.
It was truly inspiring to see the halls of the Capitol filled with red shirts, and it made me smile to see many #RedforEd photos pouring in from schools around the state. So many of you sent in photographs—take a look!
It’s no small thing to give up several hours out of a teacher’s packed schedule, and I am so grateful that members from around the state carved out the time to come to Hartford and make those connections with lawmakers.
There are now 40 days left before the close of the legislative session. Please stay tuned for future legislative follow-up opportunities and calls to action.
We certainly have more work ahead of us, but CEA is truly stronger together thanks to all of you.
