“We have the opportunity to bring about change,” Avon High School students told their classmates, teachers, parents, and community members at a George Floyd Memorial March and Rally yesterday.
The rally was organized by the student group Avon Voices for Equity that formed last year after the murder of George Floyd, and whose purpose is to educate, motivate, and equip students to be the anti-racist leaders in their school, community, and beyond.
Student speakers reminded their classmates in attendance, “This is the country we have inherited. We get to decide what our country looks like.”
Watch Avon Voices for Equity student members and their faculty advisors talk about why they organized the march and rally and what participating in the club has meant to them.
