CEA President Kate Dias appeared on Eyewitness News 3’s CT’22 and NBC Connecticut’s Face the Facts yesterday morning discussing how the recent COVID surge is impacting schools and what needs to be done to make them safer.
“We’re not where we were a year ago—we have more mitigation strategies,” Dias said. “We know more, so we should be doing more and doing better.”
Despite vaccinations, with the Omicron variant, many educators and their family members are still contracting COVID.
“Staff shortages have tremendous impact, not just on our own working conditions, but our students’ learning conditions,” Dias said. “When we start getting into a space where we have to combine classes, or try and put lots of kids in the cafeteria, we really have to ask, ‘What are we doing and why are we doing it?'”
Join your colleagues on Wednesday and wear black to bring attention to the need for safe schools.
