Educators provide critical support for their students, and that can be especially relevant for LGBTQ+ youth, who are more likely to experience bullying and attacks on their rights.
Join other educators at a free 90-minute workshop on May 1, where you’ll learn about the challenges facing queer youth and how you can be an ally. This training covers the basics of sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression—including vocabulary, history, and cultural insights—before delving into why these identities and conversations are so important.
Presented by Q Plus, an organization dedicated to creating resources and programs that address the needs identified by queer youth, the workshop explores
- Youth experiences of queerphobias
- Risk factors and related statistics
- Long-term impacts of growing up queer and unsupported
Trainers will discuss ways to reduce these risks, including protective factors and best practices for everything from policies to day-to-day interactions. This training includes a brief overview of relevant federal and Connecticut anti-discrimination laws that protect students.
