Governor Rell announced yesterday that there is now enough vaccine to make it available to any Connecticut resident interested in getting vaccinated. The state is currently seeing fewer cases of H1N1, but it’s possible there will be another wave of the pandemic this winter and the virus is expected to be around for several more years.
If you are interested in getting vaccinated, contact your doctor or your local health department designated to administer the vaccine. A list of local health departments can be found at www.ct.gov/dph/mda

From what I have been told, January and February could see a resurgence of the virus. I tried getting a vaccine from CVS, but none in my area have the H1N1 shot. I’m definitely going to take this opportunity to get the shot.
I called my own doctor and was able to walk in and get the H1N1 shot. It was that easy.
I haven’t been able to get the regular flu shot since they didn’t make enough.
I hope our school gets it soon.
Stacie from CT
I teach in the East Haven School District. Teachers and students of the town were offered the H1N1 shot or nasal mist a few weeks ago. So it seemed as though the availability was increasing in CT. BUT the day after we were told that it probably will not be offered again. Thank goodness my principal allowed me to leave early to receive the shot on that day.
Being an elementary specials teacher, I see every student. Being exposed to all different sneezes, germs, and fingers makes it easy to decide to get the vaccine. I won’t be surprised if we see a resurgence sometime in the next year.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
I got my H1N1 shot through my allergist two weeks ago, but was surprised to get a prerecorded phone call today letting us know that there are free clinics in town! It was through Chatham Health Care, so if you are in the East Hampton area (or surrounding towns) you should be able to get one soon!
My school system scheduled several flu clinics and then cancelled due to a shortage of vaccines. I decided to put my name on a waiting list at my doctor’s office. Finally I received a call to get mine. I am glad that the state finally has more to offer. The media “scares” the public with the H1N1 and then cannot offer enough vaccines. That is just not right!
