All across the state, CEA leaders, staff, and members have been making calls, knocking on doors, and turning out at campaign events and rallies to elect legislative candidates who support teachers.
“So many volunteers have come out to help with canvassing members’ neighborhoods and getting out the vote, and that really boosts our ongoing efforts to elect education champions,” says CEA Political Engagement Coordinator Gus Melita. “When a fellow teacher knocks on your door and says, ‘Here’s why I’m voting for this person, here’s how this candidate will support safe and healthy public schools, teachers’ pensions, and everything in between,’ that makes an impact. That gets people to the polls.”
Melita has coordinated virtual phone banks and door-knocking events in several key districts and urges CEA members to take part in the final push before Election Day.
“With only one weekend to go, we cannot let up,” he says. “Please urge your friends and neighbors to vote for pro-education candidates, and come join us if you’re free this Saturday or Sunday.”
