A constitutional amendment that passed at the 2024 CEA Representative Assembly creates a new Ethnic Minority Director position on CEA’s Board of Directors. This changes the board makeup to include an additional voting member and ensures representation of CEA’s racially and ethnically diverse membership. New language in the constitution outlines the parameters of this representation. The percentage of ethnic minority members on CEA’s Board of Directors shall be at least equal to the percent of ethnic minority teachers in Connecticut, as determined by the State Department of Education through the annual Educator Race/Ethnicity Trend Report.
At their August meeting, CEA’s Board of Directors will appoint an interim Ethnic Minority Director and Alternate who will serve until the next election, which will be held at the 2025 CEA RA. Ethnic minority members, as defined in the NEA Bylaws, Section 12-1h, may be eligible to put their names in nomination for one position. Members interested in being nominated must notify the office of CEA President in writing, either by email to Mary-Pat Soucy, Executive Assistant to the CEA President and Vice President at [email protected], or by mail to the Office of the CEA President, CEA, 21 Oak Street, Suite 500, Hartford, CT 06106. Nomination letters must be received no later than June 30.
