Flanders Elementary has been participating in the Holiday Bear Project for the past eight years, and the kindergarten teachers say that it’s a fantastic way to teach young children about the power of giving.
Teachers show up for their students every single day, and today we’re focusing on Giving Tuesday to strengthen the safety net children depend on.
“As we see changes with healthcare and SNAP benefits there couldn’t be a better time to think about sponsoring and giving to people in need,” CEA Vice President and Connecticut Education Foundation President Joslyn DeLancey told Allison Demers recently on iHeart Radio’s Community Access program.
The Connecticut Education Foundation, CEA’s charitable arm, supports students and teachers in many ways—through scholarships, holiday gifts, and critical aid when hardships arise. Most recently, CEF was in New London distributing donated school supplies to new educators.

“Books open doors to new worlds, and every child deserves that opportunity,” says CEF President Joslyn DeLancey. That dedication to getting books into the hands of Connecticut children inspired CEF’s second annual Read Across Connecticut Blue Back Book Drive that brought hundreds of families to West Hartford this month.
“This year, members of the Avon community sponsored over a hundred students through the Holiday Bear Project,” says Avon Education Association President Jon Moss.
