Starbucks workers have authorized an unfair labor practice and will go on strike starting November 13 if Starbucks doesn’t finalize fair contracts and end their union-busting. Baristas are asking everyone not to shop at any Starbucks locations for the duration of the strike, which could be lengthy.
Customers have the power to help Starbucks workers win their contract fight by withholding their money and sending a clear message to Starbucks that customers are on workers’ side. Workers encourage usual Starbucks patrons to find other local or independently owned coffee shops to patronize.
For nearly four years, Starbucks baristas have been fighting tirelessly for a fair union contract—one that ensures better pay, predictable schedules, respect on the job, and an end to the company’s relentless union-busting tactics. Despite their dedication and widespread public support, Starbucks continues to refuse to bargain in good faith.
Baristas have called time and again for meaningful proposals that would raise take-home pay, provide adequate hours, improve staffing levels, and resolve ongoing unfair labor practice charges. Instead, the company continues to delay, intimidate, and deny workers the fair treatment they deserve.
As union members and advocates for workplace fairness, educators understand that an injury to one is an injury to all. Standing in solidarity with Starbucks workers is standing up for the right of every worker to organize and bargain collectively.
Join us in calling on Starbucks to do the right thing—bargain in good faith and respect its employees. Sign the pledge today to show your support for Starbucks baristas and the labor movement they’re helping to build.
