When Kristen Record was confirmed as a member of the State Board of Education last spring she became the first active teacher the Board had had among its members in many years. In the latest episode of CEA’s podcast, the Stratford physics teacher talks with CEA President Kate Dias and Vice President Joslyn DeLancey about her first six months on the Board and what she hopes to accomplish going forward.
“The learning curve was incredibly steep,” Record, a 25-year veteran educator, says. “I know a lot of things about a lot of things, I have testified before the Board of Education and legislators, I work with people from the Department of Education on a regular basis, and yet this experience was completely brand new. I absolutely felt like I had so much to learn, and at the same time, I quickly realized that I had a whole wealth of knowledge that no one else sitting around the table had.”
