Right now is our best chance to be heard on the repeal of WEP/GPO—federal penalties that unfairly reduce teachers’ social security benefits. There is a Congressional hearing Monday, and all educators can submit written testimony.
It affects hundreds of thousands, if not millions of public employees that paid into Social Security and essentially are being penalized because they also happen to be public servants.
Among Connecticut’s roughly 500,000 K-12 students, 39,000 adolescents (ages 12-17) were reported to have at least one major depressive episode in the last year, and more than half experienced severe episodes. Only 24,000 received treatment.
Voters turned out in cities and towns across Connecticut yesterday. Thank you to all of you who voted in local elections and made your voice heard.
