Today is World Teachers’ Day—a day to celebrate teachers, the professionals who create the future every day in classrooms around the world.
Education is critical to meeting the big challenges of our time from eliminating poverty to fighting climate change—and the ability to access a quality education is also a fundamental human right. Teachers are essential to our future as a nation and globally.
Unfortunately, despite their love for the profession, teachers are leaving the classroom and fewer and fewer young people are choosing teaching careers. UNESCO estimates that the world needs over 69 million new teachers by 2030, and the shortage only continues to grow. We badly need urgent action.
Ensuring teachers everywhere are well-trained, well-supported, and well-compensated is the only way to reverse the teacher shortage and start building the education workforce we need for the future we want.
This World Teachers’ Day, join the global mobilization calling for investments in teachers and in quality public education.
