Summer temps may be back this week, but preparation for the winter holidays is already underway.
Every year, the Connecticut Education Foundation (CEF) Holiday Bear gift-giving project brings CEA members, communities, and local businesses together to brighten the holidays for hundreds of children and teens in need, and that work begins now.
“As teachers welcome students back to school, not only are we getting to know new names and faces but we’re also identifying students who might be facing challenging situations—the loss of a home, family income, or other critical supports,” says CEA Vice President and CEF President Joslyn DeLancey. “Holiday Bear makes the holidays brighter for these children and their families.”
Through Holiday Bear, teachers provide wish lists for preK-12 students whose families are struggling to afford holiday gifts. Fellow CEA members, leaders, staff, and others throughout the state chip in and make those wishes come true.
You can help by
- Nominating a child in need (nominations accepted through October 4)
- Sponsoring a child
- Donating contributions toward gifts
Everyone who sponsors a child will receive a colorful, durable duffel bag to fill with gifts, a luggage tag personalized with the child’s name, and easy instructions for pickup/delivery of gifts.
