Join teachers across the state for a conference on Tuesday, May 23 on re-centering joy, empathy, and belonging as foundations for teaching and learning. The day-long event at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield is free to CEA members and features sixteen breakout sessions led by teacher leaders and others in the education field.
The day is hosted by the Teacher Leader Fellowship Academy, a partnership of CEA and Sacred Heart. The academy provides professional development, collaboration, and support to help educators further expand their skills and be effective leaders.
The conference’s keynote speaker is Erin Gruwell, a highly acclaimed teacher, author, social justice activist, and founder of the Freedom Writers Foundation. The Freedom Writers Diary (1999) was a #1 New York Times bestseller and was adapted into a major motion picture, Freedom Writers, starring Hilary Swank. In 2019, Gruwell and the Freedom Writers were the subjects of the Emmy Award-winning PBS documentary Freedom Writers: Stories from the Heart. Come listen to her impassioned message full of joy, empathy, and belonging and attend a breakout session for a more in-depth understanding of how she changed the lives of the students with whom she worked.
The event is presented by Sacred Heart University, CEA, and CT ASCD.
