This week is NEA’s SuperWeek—a time when educators from around the country converge on Washington, D.C., to lobby members of Congress to support a variety of issues affecting educators. CEA President Kate Dias and NEA Directors Katy Gale and Tanya Kores will be lobbying Congress on a variety of issues including educator retirement security, a top priority.
CEA and NEA have been fighting for years to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), which unfairly penalize millions of teachers and their families by reducing or eliminating their Social Security benefits. Several bills before Congress now have the potential to make repeal a reality. The members of Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation all support repealing GPO and WEP, but there are still actions Connecticut educators can take to move a repeal forward.
Learn more and see how you can help get long-overdue legislation passed that reflects today’s reality and preserves tomorrow’s financial security for millions of teachers. Join a free, information-packed CEA webinar this Thursday, September 21, from 4 to 5 p.m.
