All Connecticut teachers who have ever earned Social Security benefits are denied most (if not all) of those benefits, along with survivors’ benefits their spouses earned, because of two outdated federal laws: the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).
For years, CEA has been fighting to bring this decades-old injustice to a close, and this week provides a crucial window of opportunity for all of us to get it done.
This week, CEA is joining with the National WEP/GPO Repeal Task Force to take action and urge Congress to repeal these outdated and hurtful policies.
As part of our weeklong push, CEA is urging members to write to Congressman John Larson to encourage him, along with his colleagues, to continue to move repeal legislation forward. This legislation (HR 82) has overwhelming bipartisan support that signals the immense enthusiasm behind repealing these Social Security penalties.
Have some additional time and want to take further action? There are plenty more members of Congress to contact and urge to move HR 82 forward! Click here for the full list of members to contact each day this week!
Please keep an eye out for additional information and social media posts this week as we work to repeal the steal. Show your support for repealing WEP/GPO with a Repeal the Steal T-shirt.
