Your voice is needed as educators and other public servants across the nation continue our push to repeal WEP/GPO.
At 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, the Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy will hold a field hearing in Columbus, Ohio, on S. 597, which would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). Your written testimony on the subject will go a long way toward encouraging Congress to repeal WEP/GPO once and for all.
Share your story and explain how these unfair laws impact you and intensify Connecticut’s teacher shortage by turning talented people away from the profession.
S. 597 is the Senate’s companion legislation to H.R. 82 in the House. As we continue to push H.R. 82 for a “markup session” that prepares these bills for a possible vote in the House, we are encouraged that the Senate is taking action on their proposal and providing another opportunity to actively engage in this conversation. Your voice matters, and our combined, repeated calls for an end to WEP/GPO are hard to ignore.
Unlike the previous House Subcommittee hearings, this hearing will not be live-streamed, so it is even more vital that our voices for a repeal are heard and seen in our letters of support for this important legislation.
Additionally, if you have not had a chance to do so, please join the 1,700+ retired and active educators who have sent a message to a targeted group of 18 Senators, urging them to co-sponsor S. 597 and help get this legislation over the finish line. Click here to send them a message using our simple click-to-send program.
